Grade 6:
This year is devoted to the study of God’s saving love as it is revealed in Sacred Scripture, especially the Old Testament. We will focus on how we come to know God and Jesus through Scripture, how God’s plan of salvation unfolds in a covenantal relationship. We will spend time studying the Bible and learning various ways to pray.
The Religion Formation curriculum at St. Mary’s School primarily uses the Christ Our Life series from Loyola Press. This series emphasizes that each of our lives is centered on Jesus. The series also responds to the Church’s call for a New Evangelization to know, proclaim, witness, and share the Catholic faith.
In sharing this educational responsibility with their parents, our desire for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students is that they:
Christ Our Life, New Evangelization Edition, Loyola Press
Catechism of the Catholic Church
YouCat: Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church
Chosen: Your Journey Toward Confirmation, Ascension Press
The New American Bible
Resources of study for the Classroom:

Methods of Assessment:

- Participate more fully and deeply in a life of prayer and reflection as a response to God’s presence in their lives
- Develop a deeper understanding of the liturgy and liturgical year
- Grow in their faith and understanding of Catholic teachings and practices
- Expand and strengthen their moral foundation and ability to make faith-based decisions
- Progress in their awareness of social responsibility, justice, and service
- Become disciples of Christ and a witness to our faith by being able to explain their beliefs and how God is directly and intimately at work in their lives.
